What Dental Implant Restorations Are and How They Work

The dental implant process involves placing a small titanium post that mimics a tooth root into the jawbone where the missing tooth once was. The titanium post serves as a sturdy foundation for the restoration, which could be a crown, bridge, or even a full denture, depending on the case and amount of teeth requiring treatment.

Osseointegration

The process starts with a surgical procedure to place the implant into the jawbone. Over time, the bone naturally fuses with the titanium post through a process called osseointegration. This bond is important for providing long-term stability and support for the new tooth or teeth. Once the implant is securely in place and the surrounding bone has healed, a connector known as an abutment is attached to the implant. The final restoration—often a custom-made crown—is then secured onto the abutment, completing the process.

Bone Loss Prevention

Dental implants offer significant benefits, including preventing bone loss that can occur when teeth are missing and maintaining the alignment of the surrounding teeth. Because implants are designed to function like natural teeth, they provide a strong bite and a natural look. This makes dental implant restorations an ideal option for anyone seeking a permanent solution to tooth loss.

Our Simi Valley dentist collaborates with experienced surgeons to ensure that each step of the implant restoration process is carefully planned and executed for optimal results. Our goal is to provide patients with restorations that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, giving them the confidence to smile and eat comfortably.
